Cutt Slam Hall of Fame Inductees
The anglers listed below are the inaugural class of indcutees into our Cutt-Slam Hall of Fame. They took a break from their day jobs and have either completed all or a portion while staying at the Lodge at Jackson Fork Ranch.
Tom Pleiss, Omaha NEDay job: Retired CFO
"We want to express our sincere appreciation and thank you for a truly memorable experience in accomplishing the Wyoming Cutt-Slam. Everything was perfect. Enjoyed fishing the Hoback and will be back. The outfitter you connected us to in both locales were outstanding. We have traveled the world, but there was nothing lacking in either locale."
John Pound, Pittsburg, CADay job: Pres.of Greenhouse Manufacturing Co.
"I would describe myself as an adventuresome fly-fisher. I 've been to Alaska, South America, and the trophy rivers of the Rockies. I have to put my cutt-slam adventure up with the best of my trips so far. Thank you for bringing awareness to the program."
Dave Mitchell, Denver, CODay job: Ambulance Service Director, Paramedic
"I did it! My goal was to complete the Cutt-Slam and I finished it. I enjoyed most was the variety of water that this program allows. The back-drop of the Wyoming landscape is just incredible"
Andrew Wanek, Lincoln, NEDay job: Clinical Pharmacist
"There are some good places to fly fish in my home state but it pales in comparison to the fishing in Wyoming or other parts of the country. I consider myself a beginner-level fly fisherman with some experience. most of my experience in fly fishing has come from obtaining the Wyoming cutt-slam. I owe my success to Mike Kaul and his guides for being patient and knowledgable about every aspect of the sport. The most rewarding part in pursuit of the cutt-slam was meeting new people and making new friends and seeing some of the most beautiful country Wyoming has to offer. Successfully finishing the cutt-slam was a challenge. I had to travel to some remote places and use different fly fishing techniques to finish the slam. So when I think of finishing the cutt-slam, I will think of a wonderful time spent with friends in some very wild and picturesque Wyoming.
Neto Segura, St. Louis, MODay job: Attorney
"Henry David Thoreau once wrote that 'Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.' Indeed, my cutt-slam adventure surprised me in just how much richer the experience was than I thought it would be. From the fantastic folks at the Lodge at Jackson Fork Ranch who made my stay so comfortable, to the guides at Two Rivers Emporium who helped turn me from a novice into a hall-of-famer in a few short days, I will never forget my time spent experiencing the true West. So while I'm really proud to have my name in the hall of fame, it will definitely be the unmatched beauty of the views, the peaceful moments of hearing nothing but the river rippling past you, the laughs shared on the river banks and the stories of the big one that got away that I'll be bragging about for the rest of my life (or at least until I head back out to try it all over again!). "
Joe Daugherty, Omaha, NEDay Job: M.D. / Entreprenuer
"Fly-fishing is an art form that one seldom masters, and I have been trying for a decade. The experience at Jackson Fork Lodge is second to none with respect to the scenery and water locations for bringing up these amazingly beautiful fish. The Lodge guides are true masters of the sport and helped through all the intricacies of achieving the Cutt-Slam. This was an experience that anyone would love, I even got my wife started earning her cutt-slam certificate. I am grateful for the adventure that I thouroughly enjoyed and will always treasure!"
Jim Ricketts, Omaha, NEDay Job: C.O.O. of Non-Profit
" What a fun goal! Catching four subspecies of the cutt-throat trout in four beautiful Wyoming creeks and rivers was a blast. The bad news - good news - for me was that I didn't catch the Bonneville the first time on Smith Creek so the good news was that I had to return to spend another day trout fishing. What hardships! "
Ed Regan, Omaha, NEDay Job: Investment Management Consultant
" Our trip was great. The lodge was perfect, no imperfections, service was great, cooking was fantastic, people were very nice. Couldn’t ask for any better. Mike Kaul took me over after the Bonneville trout which we caught and then we finished with a Colorado River Cut-throat trout about 8pm that night. Rose and the rest feed the bison from a flatbed and really enjoyed it. We just had a ball. Thanks "
Pat McPherson, Omaha, NEDay Job: Political Consultant
